The Kaombe Relief Fund

The Kaombe Relief Fund is dedicated to empowering communities in Malawi by improving education, supporting healthcare, and providing essential resources for long-term growth and sustainability.

What is the Kaombe Relief Fund

Our organization is committed to improving education and healthcare in Malawi through sustainable community-driven initiatives. From establishing libraries and providing educational sponsorships to supporting healthcare programs in rural areas, our work is rooted in creating lasting impact. What started with a small team of dedicated individuals, including former Peace Corps volunteers, has grown into a mission to empower communities through access to knowledge, resources, and opportunities. With continued support, we strive to expand these efforts and make a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

What Your Donations Do

With our donations, we strive to create lasting change by expanding educational opportunities and strengthening healthcare support for those who need it most. Contributions help provide essential resources such as books, desks, and school supplies to students, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed. Additionally, donations support the construction of safe learning spaces and the development of programs that empower both educators and families. Every contribution directly impacts the lives of children and communities, helping to build a brighter future for Malawi.

Kaombe Relief Fund

Our Story

The Kaombe Relief Fund was founded to build on nearly two decades of community-driven projects in Malawi. Its roots trace back to 2006 when Shaina served in the Peace Corps and formed a lasting partnership with Mambeya, a local educator and leader. Over the years, they collaborated on initiatives such as student sponsorships, building a girls’ dormitory, and establishing a library. In 2022, Mambeya identified a growing need for students who had failed their Form 4 exams and had no opportunity to continue their education. With his leadership and funding secured by Shaina and Brian, Kaombe Private Secondary School was established, providing a second chance for students to continue their studies. Recognizing the potential for even greater impact, the Kaombe Relief Fund was officially formed a year later to support and expand these efforts. Named after a Malawian river, with "Kaombe" meaning "hope" in Chichewa, the fund embodies the power of long-term relationships, perseverance, and community-led change.
